About

We dreamt up Coven Oven in 2019 whilst dossing off at work in an antiquarian bookshop together. We were both into witchcraft, food, hosting, crafting, ceremony and herbalism, and thought that holding events to explore and connect all these things together would be fun and in some way deeply, deeply important. Our events would celebrate The Wheel of the Year and would be sincere but fun, and not too serious! Ultimately, we felt that in our secular communities we were missing out on moments to come together and celebrate something greater than ourselves - the land, the seasons, the sun, the moon, and magic!

So we started a supper club, cooking elaborate if slightly chaotic meals, making broomsticks, leaping over candles, pressing apples and casting spells. At the start it was only our pals who would come, but one day we opened up a Samhain event to the wider public and total strangers turned up - we were touched and realised there were loads of weirdos out there ready to connect! When Covid hit we switched from events to Sabbat 2 You delivery packs. We raced around Bristol delivering little bags with handmade zines (full of recipes, rituals, lore, and more), homemade seasonal treats, and crafting supplies for a ritual. In 2022 we returned to in-person events which were bigger (and probably better); it was so nice to be celebrating all together again!

Our first event was in 2018, so after many years it's years it's time for Coven Oven to die so something new can grow from its rotten corpse. It’s been a huge and beautiful thing in our lives and we’ve learned so much about the importance of celebration through marking these festivals with so many beautiful witches over the years.

We are leaving this website here so people can find out about us, get in touch if they'd like us to run a workshop or event and so we can sell our remaining wares!

WHEEL OF THE YEAR

The Wheel of the Year is an amalgamation of ancient Celtic festivals, the farming calendar, and more modern practices drawn from various traditions around the British Isles - and we love it! It divides up the year into eight festivals that anyone can celebrate - the solstices, the equinoxes, and the cross-quarters - which map out the earth’s perpetual cycle of growth and retreat as it moves around the sun.

Imbolc - 1st February

Ostara (Spring Equinox) 21st March

Beltane - 1st May

Summer Solstice - 21st June

Lammas - 1st August

Mabon (Autumn Equinox) - 22nd September

Samhain - 31st October

Yule (Winter Solstice) - 21st December
